While the streets of Delhi were filled with people and colour, and the pink buildings of Jaipur were wonderful to see, it’s the Taj Mahal that really took my breath away. You would think (like most famed monuments) that seeing the Taj Mahal in person might be a bit underwhelming. But standing in front of it, soaking it all in, I can say it not only lived up to the hype but exceeded it.
To visit the Taj Mahal you have to buy a ticket (if you’re with a guide chances are they’ll already be pre-bought) and venture through security. There’s a strict no food and metal objects rule for when entering so don’t bother bringing any snacks with you. While there will always be people in the grounds, you can avoid the tourist bus rushes by arriving early in the morning or late in the afternoon. We went in the afternoon to see the sunset and it was incredible.
