Arrival in Kyoto
Begin your Japan adventure as you arrive in Kyoto, a city known for its rich cultural heritage. Take a scenic express train from Osaka Kansai International Airport to Kyoto City, followed by a short taxi ride to your hotel. Settle in and prepare for the exciting days ahead.
Day 3
Kyoto Exploration
Immerse yourself in the wonders of Kyoto, renowned for its Buddhist temples, serene gardens, and traditional teahouses. Take a leisurely day to discover the city's iconic landmarks, such as the Kinkaku-ji Golden Pavilion and the historic Gion district. For a memorable excursion, venture to Nara, a nearby city teeming with historical treasures and sprawling parks.
Day 4
Temples 1 - 3 in Tokushima
Embark on a pilgrimage to Tokushima Prefecture, where you'll begin your spiritual journey by visiting three remarkable temples: Ryozen-ji, Gokuraku-ji, and Konsen-ji. Experience the tranquility and reverence of the Shukubo Temple Lodging, where you'll spend the night. Alternatively, choose to stay at a traditional Ryokan for a cultural immersion.
Day 5
Temples 11 - 12 in Tokushima
Travel south to explore Fujii-dera, a captivating hillside temple complex. From there, walk up the mountain to reach Shosan-ji, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Descend to the east and continue your pilgrimage to the picturesque Onsen village of Kamiyama, where you'll spend the night in a cozy Minshuku Guesthouse or Ryokan.
Day 6
Temples 20 - 21 in Tokushima
Embark on a beautiful and varied hike from Kakurin-ji to Tairyu-ji. Traverse charming hamlets, cross the Nakagawa River, and ascend to the summit for panoramic views. Conclude the day with a cable car ride offering stunning vistas of the cedar forest and the town below. Travel by bus to your accommodation for the evening.
Day 7
Temples 82 - 80 in Kagawa
Journey to northern Kagawa Prefecture for a rewarding hike through scenic landscapes and visits to Negoro-ji, Shiromine-ji, and Kokubun-ji temples. Indulge in the comfort of a traditional Ryokan in the historic hot spring town of Kotohira Spa, where you'll experience warm hospitality and traditional Japanese cuisine.
Day 8
Temples 57 - 58 in Ehime
Travel by train and bus to Betsumyo in northern Ehime and embark on a picturesque hike to Eifuku-ji and Senyū-ji temples. Delve into lush forests and explore rural farming communities along the way. Spend the night in Shukubo pilgrims' lodgings at Senyū-ji or opt for a western-style hotel in Imabari City.
Day 9
Temples 59 onwards in Ehime
Begin your day with a gentle walk down the mountain from Senyū-ji, allowing you to discover small village settlements en route. Return to the town of Imabari, with the option to continue your journey to Iyo Kokubun-ji. Travel by train to Matsuyama and take a tram to Dogo Onsen, where you'll enjoy the serene ambiance of a traditional Ryokan.
Day 10
Temples 45 - 44 in Ehime
Embark on a memorable hike to Iwaya-ji, climbing the iconic ladder to Kōbō Daishi's meditation spot and admiring breathtaking views. Continue the journey to Daiho-ji temple through enchanting forests. In the evening, return to your Ryokan in Dogo Onsen, where you can relax and rejuvenate in the soothing hot springs.
Day 11
Temples 60 - 62 in Ehime
Conclude your pilgrimage with a rewarding hike in the eastern part of Ehime Prefecture. Travel by tram and bus to Ooto, then take a pre-paid taxi to the starting point. Walk through picturesque rural landscapes to reach Yokomine-ji, Kōon-ji, and Hoju-ji temples. These tranquil temples offer a serene conclusion to your pilgrimage experience. After the hike, travel by train to Osaka, where you'll spend your final evening.
