Frequently asked questions

What to take on holiday to Byron Bay?

Byron Bay is known for its easy, breezy care-free vibes, so don’t be afraid to keep it casual-yet-chic. Think loose-fitting linen pants over a one-piece swimsuit, oversized shirts, sandals and a fabulous hat. For night-time, don’t be afraid to step it up a notch to smart casual. Hot tip, leave the heels at home, they’ll just take up valuable room in your suitcase that could otherwise be filled with shopping from Byron’s beautiful boutiques.

Where to go on holiday in Byron Bay?

The answer comes back to what brings you to Byron in the first place. If it’s sun, sand and sea, roll out a towel on Main Beach or head around to Wategos or Tallow. Byron’s food scene is hotter than the surface of the sun right now, so there’s no shortage of amazing places to eat and drink, and if it’s nature you seek, head to Arakwal National Park or go chasing waterfalls at Minyon Falls. The town itself is easy to navigate on foot or bicycle, no car required! With limited parking and strict time limits, it’s easier not to have a car unless you plan to explore the hinterland or head into Brunswick Heads.

When is the best time to visit Byron Bay?

It’s just like the Mungo Jerry song says, in the summertime. If you enjoy sun-drenched days by the ocean and balmy nights at the bar, anytime from December to February is ideal. While it is ‘technically’ the rainy season, there’s plenty of places to hunker down and ride out a rain shower. The good news is that Byron Bay is glorious all-year round so there’s no wrong answer here.

What is there to do in Byron Bay?

If you can manage to peel yourself out of your pool lounge, there’s no shortage of things to do in Byron. Eat your way around the town’s seriously swoon-worthy restaurants, learn to surf in Wategos, get your daily step count up on the Cape Byron LightHouse walk, kayak around the headland in search of dolphins or take a guided meditation, yoga class or sound healing – when in Rome, right? Meander the markets sampling the local produce, which is regarded as some of the best in the country, take a daytrip to Brunswick Heads, crack macadamias and learn about sustainable produce at The Farm. That’s not all, treat yourself to a day spa, take a cycling tour, embark on a bush tucker walk of discovery or sip from the source at Stone & Wood brewery. One thing is for certain, it’s impossible to be bored in Byron.
