Frequently asked questions

What to take on holiday in Darwin?

What to take depends entirely on the time of year you plan to travel. If you’re heading in the wet season, invest in some quick-dry clothing and a quality raincoat (skip the umbrella). If you’re heading to Darwin in the dry season, be prepared for the heat. Pack lightweight and breathable layers. No matter when you’re planning to travel, some sturdy walking shoes are a must!

When is the best time to visit Darwin?

As the capital of the Northern Territory, Darwin is always buzzing. For the most pleasant weather, the dry season from May to October is ideal. During this time, the weather is sunny and mild, with low humidity and almost no rain, making it the perfect time to explore Darwin's outdoor attractions.  If you don’t mind humidity and afternoon showers, the wet season often presents some excellent deals on accommodation and tours.

What is there to do in Darwin?

Lace up your hiking boots and explore the national parks, chase waterfalls, take a dip in the artificial lagoon, hit the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, get up close with crocs (not the footwear kind) at Crocosaurus Cove, learn about Aboriginal culture, watch the sunset, take a scenic flight and experience Darwin’s lively nightlife. Want more? How about some fishing, boating, visiting the wildlife parks and botanical gardens?
